  • The Education Department Found a Way to End School Discrimination: Stop Counting It

    This summer the Education Department rescinded the rule that let it spot discrimination by comparing racial outcomes. Its new guidance says schools can't consider race when writing discipline policy, even when one group is suspended far more than the rest. Meanwhile the Justice Department has closed more than 50 school desegregation cases. In one Louisiana parish, the transfers stopped almost as soon as the order did.

  • In the Whitest Towns in New Jersey, 9 Percent Say the Schools Are Segregated

    In New Jersey towns where one resident in a hundred is Black, 68 percent of voters say the local schools have "a good mix" of races. A Fairleigh Dickinson survey experiment matched what 1,211 voters say about their own towns against the Census data for those same towns... and then found the single question that makes some of them see the fence.

  • Nancy Mace Calls the Congressional Black Caucus "Federally Sanctioned Segregation"

    Rep. Nancy Mace's resolution would dissolve the Congressional Black Caucus, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, which she calls "federally sanctioned segregation." Her own press release also names more than a dozen congressional staff associations from both parties, including the Greek American and Italian American ones, whose members are white.
