An Australian gunman murdered 51 Muslim worshippers in two New Zealand mosques on Friday, and published a 74-page document first. Its title was three words: The Great Replacement. Saturday morning in Squirrel Hill, a gunman walked into the Tree of Life synagogue and murdered eleven people at Shabbat services, the deadliest antisemitic attack in American history. Two hours earlier he had posted his reason: a Jewish refugee agency "likes to bring invaders in that kill our people." Not "Jews" in the abstract. A specific charge, in a specific vocabulary, that had been circulating in American politics all autumn.
