As Mitt Romney was giving a speech at the Los Angeles Hispanic Chamber of Commerce yesterday, a video was being leaked from a Romney private fund raiser held in the residence of one of his 1% supporters. Judging by the camera position, someone was being sneaky and getting a recording of a speech that Romney certainly didn’t want leaving that room. Well, in this day and age, there is no such thing as complete privacy. Now we can let the real Mitt tell you how he feels.
“My dad, as you probably know, was the governor of Michigan and was the head of a car company. But he was born in Mexico… and had he been born of, uh, Mexican parents, I’d have a better shot at winning this. But he was unfortunately born to Americans living in Mexico. He lived there for a number of years. I mean, I say that jokingly, but it would be helpful to be Latino.”
That’s right, kids. Romney thinks things would be better for him if he had been born Latino instead of drawing the short straw and being born white, rich beyond most of our wildest dreams, and ruggedly handsome. The poor man has suffered so much, as we all know from the RNC, and all he wants is to be a minority.
Rep. Charlie Gonzalez of San Antonio had the following to say: “It’s not about being a Latino that would make Romney a better candidate,” Gonzalez said. “Latinos, and all Americans, look at the substance of a candidate’s proposals to determine who is the better candidate and who best represents the priorities of their community. That is why upon examining the policies willingly supported by Romney on the economy, health care, and immigration, Latinos overwhelmingly support President Obama.”
Now is your time, loyal GOP defenders, to step up once again to declare yourselves innocent. The truth keeps coming out, though. When among their own kind and unaware that any outsiders are listening, even Republican Presidential Candidates are racists.
Republicans are Racists 
I suppose a record number of African-Americans turned out to vote for Obama in 2008 strictly because he was a better candidate than previous Democrats? And I’m sure the fact that 95% of African-American voters voted for Obama over McCain had nothing to do with his race at all. Let’s be honest with ourselves, minorities have a tendency to vote along racial lines, just like whites do. Both sides are racists.
Spoken like a true racist. When the Republican party cuts every program that helps minorities, creates charter schools to help get white gets out of public schools, pushes to eliminate centuries old voting standards in order to keep minorities from the polls, and says and does things like the ones listed on this site… Well, then why would they EVER get the vote of those minorities? Your talking point is a new one created by racists to try to point the finger elsewhere. Thank you for dropping by and giving us reason #408978 that republicans are racists.
Not saying I disagree on why minorities would vote against the Republican party. In basically every election, the vast majority of minorities vote for Democrats over Republicans. That is a fact. My point is that in 2008, it just so happened that a minority candidate was running and many more minority voters came out of the woodwork and voted than do in a typical presidential election (both in sheer numbers and in percentage). I have no problem with this. But it’s hard to argue against the fact that at least some of these voters were spurred on by the racial background of President Obama. Otherwise, I find it difficult to discern why some of these same voters didn’t support John Kerry, Al Gore, or even Bill Clinton as strongly. I’m certain not all were motivated by race, just like not all Republicans are racists. Although, seeing as this website seems to lump all Republicans into this category, maybe you don’t agree with that statement.
P.S. – I live in an area with many charter schools, and a majority of the students are minorities. Not sure where you’re from, but at least in my experience, charter schools are not filled with white students escaping from the public school system.
Are there racist Republicans? Yes. Are there racist Democrats? Yes. If I do an internet search, I can find countless examples of both. That’s my only point. If you try to say that there aren’t racists on both sides, then I respectfully ask you to do a single internet search and you’ll see I’m right. Not defending racist Republicans, just trying to clarify if you are that naive to think that the Democratic party doesn’t have its own issues in this regard.
Sure it does and the history of the Democratic party is not one filled with tales of honor of a great struggle for civil rights. Class Warfare was brought up by the right in recent years but I suspect that it is an act of projection. Accuse the other side first and then launch your attacks. My issue is that where one party has problems in this regard from time to time, the other party is institutionalizing it. The major case study is voter suppression. Show me a recent bill that is so pointedly one sided against another class or race that was presented by Democrats and I’ll show you 25 proposed by Republicans in state legislatures and even the federal government… And don’t bring any of that suffering of the wealthy meat around here either. I appreciate your opinions and your concern about the content of this blog.
